Why choose fine sawdust over shavings for dairy farms?
Fine sawdust offers superior stall hygiene and consistent udder contact coverage, making it ideal for dairy barns focused on cleanliness and animal health. Its high absorbency helps maintain dry bedding, reducing moisture-related bacteria and promoting healthier conditions. Many operations using fine sawdust report lower somatic cell counts, which supports milk quality and overall herd wellbeing. When used over mattresses or mats, fine sawdust creates a smooth, even surface that is both easy to maintain and comfortable for cows.
How heavy are the sawdust bags?
Eco-Pick bags weigh 34 lbs, while Fine Sawdust bags weigh 35 lbs.
Why aren't the bags compressed, and do I still get value from this?
Unlike wood shavings, sawdust doesn't have air pockets, so compression isn't necessary. Eco-Pick bags are designed to provide the same weight and value as competitor products without the added expense of bag compressors.
How should I store sawdust bags?
Our sawdust bags are weatherproof and built to withstand outdoor conditions. They can be stored outside year-round without compromising product quality or performance. The durable plastic packaging protects the kiln-dried material from rain, snow, and moisture, ensuring it stays dry and ready for use. For added convenience and longevity, we recommend storing the bags on a pallet or elevated surface to keep them off standing water or muddy ground. UV-protected bags last over 6 months.
